What does an alert system cost?

Bay Alarm Medical systems start at less than $1 a day ($19.95/month). There are no long-term contracts, and pricing varies depending on whether you choose an in-home, mobile, or smartwatch-based system.

Is this better than a cell phone?

Yes, because medical alert devices are designed specifically for emergencies. They are wearable, waterproof for the shower (where many falls occur), have a much longer battery life than cell phones, and provide one-touch access to dedicated emergency dispatchers who already have your medical history and location.

Who do you contact in an emergency?

Our trained dispatchers follow a personalized protocol you set up. This can include calling local 911 services first, or calling family members, friends, or neighbors in the specific order you prefer.

How do I change my contact list?

You can easily update your emergency contact list at any time through our online subscriber portal or by calling our customer service team. We recommend reviewing your list at least once a year.

What if I can't talk?

If you press your button and are unable to speak, our operators will treat the call as a high-priority emergency. We will automatically dispatch emergency services to your location and notify your emergency contacts immediately.

How long does the battery last?

Our in-home help buttons have a battery life of up to 5 years and never need charging. Our mobile GPS devices and smartwatches typically require a charge every 1 to 3 days depending on the model and usage.

Will it affect a pacemaker?

Our medical alert systems are designed to be safe for use with pacemakers. However, we always recommend consulting with your physician and the manufacturer of your pacemaker to ensure there is no interference with specific magnetic or radio frequencies.

Does Bay Alarm Medical offer automatic fall detection?

Yes, automatic fall detection is available as an optional add-on. It uses sensors to detect a sudden downward movement followed by a lack of motion, triggering a call for help automatically even if you cannot press the button.

Do I need a landline for a medical alert system?

No. While we offer landline-compatible systems, we also provide 4G LTE cellular systems that work independently. You do not need to have a personal cell phone or a home phone line to use our cellular medical alert systems.

How does Smart ID work?

Your Smart ID features a unique QR code linked to your secure MedicAlert Foundation
health profile. When first responders scan the QR code with a smartphone, they can
instantly access your critical medical information.

Your health profile can include allergies, medical conditions, medications, implanted
devices, emergency contacts, and other important details—helping EMS make faster,
more informed decisions during an emergency.

What information do first responders see when they scan my Smart ID?

Scanning your Smart ID QR code brings up a wealth of real time information to help first
responders make important decisions about your treatment:

Allergies
Medications
Medical conditions
Implanted medical devices
Emergency contacts
Physician information
Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) status
And other important medical informationHaving accurate, up-to-date medical information readily available can help first
responders provide the right care when every second counts.

How do I populate my medical information?

Once you receive your Smart ID, call our trusted partner MedicAlert Foundation at 800-
224-100. Before you call, gather your medical information, including your medical
conditions, allergies, medications, implanted medical devices, physician information,
and emergency contacts.

A knowledgeable MedicAlert Customer Service Representative will help you create your
secure health profile and ensure it is complete and accurate.

After your initial setup, you can update your health profile anytime by logging into your
MedicAlert Foundation account. Your changes are immediately available whenever first
responders scan your Smart ID QR code.

If I update my medical information, will my Smart ID still work?

Yes. Your Smart ID is linked to your MedicAlert Foundation health profile, so there's no
need to replace it when your medical information changes.

If you start a new medication, receive a new diagnosis, or update your emergency
contacts, simply update your MedicAlert Foundation health profile. The next time your
Smart ID QR code is scanned, first responders will see your most current health
information.

What happens if my Smart ID is lost or stolen?

If your Smart ID is lost or stolen, contact our trusted partner MedicAlert Foundation as
soon as possible. A Member Care representative can immediately disable your Smart
ID QR code to help protect your personal health information.

You can also disable or reactivate your QR code at any time by logging into your
MedicAlert Foundation account and visiting the Smart ID section.

If your Smart ID is not recovered, contact Bay Alarm Medical to order a replacement.
Your new Smart ID will be linked to your existing MedicAlert health profile, so first
responders can continue accessing your most up-to-date medical information when they
scan your Smart ID QR code.

Important Legal Information

By activating Smart ID powered by MedicAlert Foundation, you authorize MedicAlert Foundation to store and disclose your health information for emergency response purposes. Activation is required to use this service.
