Exciting User Data Revealed in Bay Alarm Medical Customer Survey

April 20, 2015

In an effort to continually improve our products and services, we recently issued a survey to a random sampling of our customer database.

We want to learn more about the experiences of our customers. Things like how they interacted with the service, who the system was purchased for, and what factors lead them to purchase a medical life alert system.

We’re excited to present the results to you today. Here is the breakdown of the questions and answers. We sampled nearly 3000 active Bay Alarm Medical customers.

How old are you?

We asked this question to find out at what age does someone opt to purchase a system like ours. The highest group of users is aged 65 and above, followed by the 55-64 age group.

Did you purchase the medical alert system for yourself or someone else?

With this question, we were looking to see whether the majority of our customers were purchasing the system for themselves or for a loved one. 55% of our respondents said they purchased the system for a parent.

What is the age range of the primary user of the medical alert system?

We asked this question to find out the age of the person who is using the device, rather than the person who had purchased the device. 45% of our users are in their 80s.

What was the age of the primary user when the system was first purchased?

We included this question to give us an idea about the stage of life that people start to consider a personal emergency response system. The majority of our users were in their 80s when the system was purchased.

How many miles do you live from the primary user of the medical alert device?

The reason we asked this question was to see whether there would be a pattern of people who lived far away from the primary user that purchased it, or whether it was those who live nearby, and so on. We found that most of our respondents said they lived less than 25 miles away from the user, or were the user themselves.

How likely is it that you would recommend this company to a friend, family member, or colleague?

We’re very pleased to see that most of our customers would recommend our company to their loved ones. It’s the highest compliment we can receive =)

Would you give our medical alert service as a gift to a friend?

In asking this question, we sought to understand whether our customers perceived a medical alert system as something to be embarrassed about or something they would feel comfortable discussing with others. This answer surprised us a bit in a good way. We’re glad to see that our users recognize the benefit of having a medical alert system in place and would feel comfortable with giving this service to their loved one as a gift.

What factors lead you to purchase the medical alert system?

With this question, we were curious to see whether people purchased a system like ours after suffering an injury, having a medical procedure, or as a precaution to protect them in the event of a fall or other emergency. This one was hard for our team to analyze since it was a free-form response, but these were the most mentioned terms among our respondents.

Overall, we were thrilled with the responses we received. Keep an eye out for future infographics and resources based on customer lifestyle data.
